I'm trying to install the GIMP graphics package and I'm getting a
dependency error that says I need glibc to install the package.
I installed it anyway using --nodeps but when I try to run /usr/bin/gimp
nothing happens.
Since I've only been using linux for a couple of weeks, I'm not totally
clear on what glibc is. I think that it's a set of development modules
for C programs. Is this correct? If this is the case, then I don't have
them because I elected to not install the C and C++ development packages
when I setup Linux.
With this in mind, I went into the package manager (I have RedHat 4.2) and
tried to install all of the C files from the development folder. Some of
them, however, won't install (ie gcc).
It seems that I do have libc installed. What's the difference?
Also, I've noticed that a lot of the software that I do have installed
doesn't work. For instance, when I try to start most of the games (ie
xdoom) nothing happens. Is this because I don't have all of the libraries
installed?
Thanks in advance for the help.
