png support in gtk image

Post by Cyber Sco » Wed, 22 May 2002 21:49:00

I'm working on a programme which depends on gtk+-1.2.8, Glib-1.2.8 and
gtkmm-1.2.3.  I wish to change an image used in the programme, from xpm
to png to cut down on disk access time.  Do the previous libraries support
png or do I need toupgrade to somthing else?

gdk_pixbuf is quite standard for gdk usage, with gtk-2 it is really
standard.

1. PNG binaries available - convert GIF images to PNG and PNG <-> PNM

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Linux binaries for pnmtopng, pngtopnm, and gif2png are available at:
    http://www.universe.digex.net/~dave/files/pngstuff.tgz
If you have trouble dowloading that, see
    http://www.universe.digex.net/~dave/files/index.html
for helpful instructions.

PNG is the image format that renders GIF obsolete.  It is perfect in
every way.  For details on that, you can visit the PNG home page at:
    http://www.wco.com/~png/

The only shared libraries you need are libc and libm; all of the
others are linked statically.

The README is appended.
