Ghostscript printing always needs manual feed

Ghostscript printing always needs manual feed

Post by Grahame M. Kell » Mon, 17 Jun 1996 04:00:00

Hi All,

I have ghostscript running well, but there is one problem that sends
me a little around the bend - Every page goes to the printer after
being processed by gs, but I have to depress the "continue" key which
is usually reserved for manual feed.  The document is any netscape
print page with A4 selected as paper size.  I have looked throughout
all the gs documentation I have on CD etc, but I cannot find a solution.

This problem does not exist for other printing jobs not pre-processed
by gs. My printer is a AP5 (Xerox) which is directly compatiable to
a Laserjet 3 & 4, 600 dpi printer. My gsprint filter command follows:

Anyone have any solution? I would really appreciate it.
Thanks & Cheers Grahame

The -dNOPAUSE option you are using should do the trick... I'm not sure
why its not... perhaps you can grab the sources to gs and just comment
out the code that pauses, or do some debugging to see why its not
 working.

/usr/bin/gs  -q -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE -r300 -sDEVICE=djet500 -sOutputFile=- -

This works for me. I recommend magicfilter though, transparent conversion to
postscript from everything.

try including the option
                             -sPAPERSIZE=a4

My LaserJet requires the "continue" key whenever it encounters
a paper size command within the printing data stream which is different
from the size it assumes to be in use currently. Human operator shall
have an opportunity to change paper supplies :-)) Obviously netscape's
printing starts each page with an A4 specification...

Did you set up the printer permanently for A4 size? Otherwise let's
assume that gs will do this kind of set-up semipermanently by means
of the -sPAPERSIZE option.

CDB

What you really need to do is do a hex dump from the printer with the file
you are sending, and see what codes are been sent.

I work for Brother UK, printer technical department, until 15th July, and
all of our printers are HP compatable. If you can email me the hex dump I can
try and find out what paper size, manual or auto feed etc is been sent.

1. Printer stuck on manual feeding

Hi folks,  newbie but learning.  I only have one problem with my box at
the moment.  I have an Okidata 600e printer - setup as an HPIIp (which
it emulates).

Problems is:  Linux (or the driver) does not recognize the paper tray.
When I print - the light flashes and the drum goes (part of the warmup)
but it will not print until manually feed pages into it.

Running Corel Linux 1.0 - Kernel 2.2.12
Any ideas?
