How is the Executor Macintosh emulator ?

Is it worth playing with ?
I understand it won't run System 7. Does that limit severely the
number of applicatoins that can be run ?

I got it a few weeks back, and I found it fun to play with but
nothing would run under it.  I did manage to get Dice-It to
run (a yatzee game), but anything "useful" killed the emulator
without message or warning.

I found it hard to navigate (no Finder) and the 10 min time limit
sure goes fast when just trying to the get the emulator to
recognize a Mac binary.  I hope it improves but I won't be buying
it.  (And I'm looking for such a creature too :)

I did not use it a lot , especially because of the 10 minutes time limit of the demo
anyway i could use MS word5 over the executor in the linux compatibility box on a
NetBSD 1.0a box , I don't know how it uses printers , but the package seems
worth investigating .
anybody's getting informations on the full grown product ??

1. Executor (Macintosh emulator) Demo note

Hi Folks,

A little while back I mentioned that an experimental, time-limited, demo
version of Executor, our Macintosh emulator, is available via anonymous
ftp (from ftp.cs.unm.edu in /pub/ardi/Executor_Linux).  Since then
we've gotten a mixture of high praise from people who are able to run it,
and complaints that it just core-dumps from people who aren't.

It turns out that we use the MIT Shared Memory extensions to speed up
the graphics and, quite possibly because we are doing something wrong,
if you don't have a recent kernel, Executor dies.  Normally I'd
immediately either fix the bug, or make Executor detect a kernel
mismatch and then gracefully quit, put a new version out and announce
the fix, but I'm about to leave for vacation, so I can't do that until
I get back.

We haven't posted anything to comp.os.linux.announce or comp.newprod
since we know that the current demo has some very rough edges (like the
problem mentioned above), but if you are an early adopter and you want
to get a sneak peek, go for it; just be aware that you need a recent
kernel.  In addition we used XFree86 2.x to build Executor/Linux and
we've had differing reports as to whether it will work with XFree86
3.x.  Since some people claim that it does, I'm assuming that the folks
who are having trouble are having trouble for some other reason.

BTW, we also don't properly handle non-U.S. keyboards.  After I get back
from vacation, I'll read up on the issue again and then perhaps ask for
some help from the net and then we'll try to do the right thing (we may
need to ask help just to know what the right thing is).

See you in ten days or so.
