lesstif and StarOffice

Post by Benjamin Trac » Sat, 03 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Hey people -

Does anybody know if cheapskates like myself who don't want to shell out
$100 for Motif will be able to use StarOffice with the Motif-clone
lesstif, or is lesstif not advanced enough?

Thanks in advance...

Ben

This is the Motif Windows Manager "mwm".  Are you sure it includes the
Motif shared Libraries?

It takes 2 disks because it is actually the Linux FT (Future technology)
distribution which also includes Motif. I don't know the exact details
of this Motif part but this explains why you need 2 disks.

I really don't know, but I strongly suspect it. It doesn't even say which
version of Motif they provide (1.2 or 2.0).
Check the Web site and ask cheapbytes directly.

Well, it better!  I know static Motif binaries tend to get big,
but needing 2 CD-ROMs is beyond ridiculous!  Especially just for a window
manager.

        Hmm ... I thought it was only $30.00.  :-(.

I got the Moteeth version and it's 2 disks also -- no linux with it --
just Motif and apps and utilities.

MWM generally needs, the dynamic libraries to execute .. and the general
tendency is that ,  any distribution of Motif , also throws in MWM, and is
specifically mentioned, as if it was a value addition (users of FVWM, know
otherwise) .. atleast that is what happens for a Motif distribution for
HP-UX or Solaaris...

1. lesstif and dynamic StarOffice?

Will lesstif allow me to use the dynamically linked version of StarOffice?
The statically linked version sucks memory like nobody's business, and I
don't want to BUY Motif.  TIA.
