Version 0.8 of ROOT OO Data Analysis Framework Released...

Post by Fons Rademaker » Mon, 02 Sep 1996 04:00:00

We are happy to announce the release of v0.8 of the ROOT system.
ROOT is an object oriented framework developed in the context
of the NA49 heavy ion collaboration at CERN. The primary aim of ROOT
is to provide an environment for large scale data analysis:
histograming, ntuples, trees, fitting and minimization, graphics,
object database, GUI and an interpreter.

The main features of this new version are:
  - Integration of a full C/C++ interpreter
  - Rootcint dictionary generator
  - Consolidated I/O subsystem
  - Many new graphics features and improved GUI
  - Dynamic linking of shared libraries
  - Extended documentation, examples and tutorials

Libraries and executables are available for a large variety of Unix
platforms, Windows/NT and Windows95.

More information is available via the ROOT Home page at location:

1. ROOT v1.00 - OO framework for large scale scientific data analysis and datamining

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

We are proud to announce the release of version 1.00 of the ROOT
system. ROOT is an OO framework for large scale scientific data
analysis and data mining. It has been developed at CERN with the
sponsorship of HP and is currently being used by a number of large
high energy physics experiments. The ROOT system, written in C++,
contains, among others, an efficient hierarchical OO database, a
C++ interpreter, advanced statistical analysis (multi dimensional
histogramming, fitting and minimization algorithms) and visualization
tools. The user interacts with ROOT via a graphical user interface, the
command line or batch scripts. The command and scripting language
is C++ (using the interpreter) and large scripts can be compiled and
dynamically linked in. Using the PROOF (Parallel ROOT Facility)
extension very large databases can be analysed in parallel on MPP's,
SMP's or loosely coupled workstation/PC clusters. ROOT also
contains a C++ to HTML documentation generation system using
the interpreter's dictionaries (the reference manual on
the web is generated that way) and a rich set of interprocess
communication classes.

ROOT has been ported to practically all known Unix platforms
and to WinNT and Win95. For more details see the ROOT web site:
http://root.cern.ch/, from where you also can download the system.

For what is new since the 0.9 version see the release notes:
