Make an AVI video from BMP files

Make an AVI video from BMP files

Post by vandyc » Tue, 11 Mar 2003 05:19:00

Hi everybody

My team and I are programming an appli, but we need something. We're
looking for a program which could generate an AVI video file from a
series of BMP files (on linux/unix). Our soft would generate the BMP
files, and the other would generate the video.
It would be perfect if it could also include a .wav file in the video :o) .

An imperative point : this prog we're looking for should be executable
from the command line, so that we could launch it from our own prog.

Well, if you know such an appli (or something which looks like that),
please answer us :o) .

Thanks.

ps : if I'm not explicit enough, you're welcome to ask me questions...

Let's say it in a pipe: Filters I found on my SuSE8.1 system

#~> cat picture.bmp|bmptopnm |pnmtojpeg > picture00001.jpg
#~> jpeg2yuv (inlist to outstream)

You will need to convert every single BMP to PNM. Then to JPG.

If you did this with all your files numbered continuously, this so-called
JPEG-list can be converted to a video stream. Parmeters control how long
every picture of this high-speed-diashow will be photographed.

Good luck

Have a look at ffmpeg, http://ffmpeg.sf.net

It will convert several image formats into video (with sound).  I'm
not sure of BMP, but I'm sure you could arrange to produce some other
format.  PNG or JPEG do work.

I think mencoder can convert png to avi. And you could convert to png from
bmp.

1. making avi files on unix

  Hi all,

can anyone please inform me how to capture a video into an "avi" format
 on unix.

    The problem goes like this,

I am having a video cassette, there are few clippings in that, I want to
capture those clippings in an avi format and put it in unix (just like
capturing movies into an "mpeg" format.)

also can you please inform me is there any way to convert "mpeg"
format file into an "avi" file.

        your help is greatly appreciated.

thanks a lot.
kiran.
