how to get GNU Emacs 19.xx to compile with Motif-like/3d-ish menus

I got my gnu emacs 19.25 from the slackware distribution.  It was
compiled with nice looking menus (better than the OldXMenu package
that comes with emacs).  What menu package did they use?  Motif?
Something Motif-like?  I used Configure to configure gnu emacs 19.27,
and doesn't have nice looking menus (pretty ugly ones, to be blunt).

use "--with-xtoolkit" when you configure.  (double check this in INSTALL,
my memory isn't what it used to be.)

Emacs has the option to be compiled with bare X, Athena or Motif
(partially) support for the menus. This should be enabled with
something like --use-athena or so, look up the option list that comes
in INSTALL or so.
Anyway, when I tried to do that with a patched 19.25 (patched up to
mule 2.0) under SunOS-4.1.3-JE, it wouldn't work, so I looked up the
spot in Configure and set the variable by hand.

I'll have to do that again soon, so maybe you can ask if you have
problems. I am going home for christmas though, so it may take some
time to answer.

Merry christmas everyone

1. emacs-19.19 gets Hangup signal and dies with term-1.1.1

[This message never made it out of NYU, so here goes again.]

Hi.  I finally figured out how to get term to work, and the only
problem I have is that whenever I start emacs-19.19 as an X
client it dies after about 10 keystrokes and the message "Hangup"
appears in the trsh.  Txconn is still running, and I can start
more X clients with no problem.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

-david
