Wjbell's 43 Anti-Linux Lies -- 4/14/2002

Post by Mark S Bi » Mon, 15 Apr 2002 19:30:42

Warren J Bell -- wjbell -- is one of the many lying anti-Linux
propaganda spammers that have operated in comp.os.linux.advocacy
over the years.  None of them has ever given any rational
explanation for their posting of proven lies, especially at the
high rates that they do it -- Bell, for example, has posted 445
lying and/or disruptive articles to the newsgroup in the last
month and 1,740 since the beginning of this year.

Since Microsoft is the only entity that has ever conducted
propaganda operations against GNU/Linux, and they have done a lot
of them, and since the high-rate spamming requires a great deal
of time and effort every day, it seems likely that many of these
anti-Linux spammers are being paid by Microsoft.  Here are 28
references to Microsoft's propaganda and coercion operations
against software that competes with theirs -- GNU/Linux, BeOS,
and OS/2.  Microsoft succeeded in forcing the BeOS and OS/2
operating systems off the market by using secret and coercive
licensing for MS-Windows.

Warren J Bell has spewed every lie put out by Microsoft, and
added some that they haven't said (in public).  Here's my
current list of them, in roughly chronological order.  Readers
are invited to mention any I've missed -- I certainly don't
look at all of his posts.

"Linux isn't ready for the desktop."

"Linux is too difficult for secretaries to use."

"Free Software Foundation leader Richard Stallman and his
ideas for the free software movement are unhealthy."

"Linux is much slower than Windows."

"Companies that support Linux go bankrupt."

  "Linux advocates are nazis."

  "Linux advocates are zealots."

  "Linux advocates are Linos."

  "Linux advocates are LinoNazis."

  "Linux advocates are delusional."

  "Linux advocates are cult members."

"Linux development leader Alan Cox is a liar."

  "Richard Stallman is a liar."

  "Linux distributions are not mature."

"Linux systems have to be rebuilt every day."

"The Linux kernel has to be recompiled every day."

  "Linux is a shit pie."

"Linux application programs have to be compiled by the user."

"Linux developers are not nice people."

"Linux applications are of poor quality and barely work."

"Linux text is small and hard to read."

  "Linux is shoddy."

"You have to jump through the hoops to get Linux to install
   properly."

  "Linux advocates are linnuts."

"Linux fonts look like shit compared to windows fonts."

  "Linux advocates are Linonuts."

"Linux involves a lot of work and nonsense."

"Linux users spend more time configuring and compiling it
   than using it."

  "Linux is always breaking."

"Installing one Linux program breaks another."

  "Linux requires constant updating."

  "Linuz software is beta quality."

"Using Linux results in a lot of time lost."

"People who use linux do so as a way to think they're above
   everyone else and elite."

"It's an illusion to think linux is the better OS."

"Linux is slower and does lower quality work than MS-Windows."

"It takes hours of fighting with configuration files to get
   Linux to work."

"If the Linux installation program doesn't recognize some of
your hardware, there's generally no way to make Linux work."

"Everyone in cola is misusing the net as a resource."

"Open Source software is Open Sores."

<snip the lies>

An excellent collection, Mark.  I hadn't realised just how prolific
or how unpleasant or untruthful our favourite homophobic turncoat
had been during this relatively short period.  It's amazing what a bit
of dosh in the hand can turn some people into.

I suspect that the emotive nature of much if not most of what he
says would persuade the passing reader that he is just a nutcase, kind
of person you don't sit next to on the tube or bus, but otherwise
tolerate because he's harmless.

I'm expecting Jason Bowen to be the next wjbell (or shawn grant or
whatever his name is).

That does not follow.  Take a logic course.

Not that it would matter.  Paranoid * theorists are rampant
on COLA, and while they demand logic and proof from their opponents,
they never, ever supply any of their own.

Blah.  Linux would do better without you.

<lots of lies snipped>

Yes, interesting isn't it?
And from Microsoft's official statements, we know they see Linux as THE
threat, not just a threat.  Just shows how false they are.

I thought the trolls weren't actually paid, just delusionary or suffering
some psychological problem.  But your posting makes a strong argument that
MS is promoting / funding this troll activity.

cheers

Does anyone else consider it a possibility that Microslop is attempting
to write viruses to attack Linux servers btw ?

PS: The thread title is absurd. Even in the short time I've been lurking it's
waaaaaayyyyyyy over 43.

Or does it mean 43 per post ?

Quote:>   "Linux isn't ready for the desktop."

It's desktop lags behind Windows.

Quote:>   "Linux is too difficult for secretaries to use."

I wouldn't know.

Quote:>   "Free Software Foundation leader Richard Stallman and his
>    ideas for the free software movement are unhealthy."

Quote:>   "Linux is much slower than Windows."

Linux is slower than Windows in some conditions. Windows is slower than
Linux in some conditions. Applications like KDE's konqueror seems to be
slower than Windows Explorer.

Quote:>   "Companies that support Linux go bankrupt."

Well, they don't seem to be having a good time of it. What happened to
Indrema? Loki Games?

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are nazis."

That's not a comment I would make.

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are zealots."

There's no harm in being a zealot, provided you're willing to accept you
might be wrong sometimes. Hell, I do.

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are Linos."

I've never described a Linux advocate as a piece of flooring.

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are LinoNazis."

Not words I would use.

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are delusional."

It is true that sometimes Linux/Windows advocates make mistakes. That
doesn't mean they're delusional.

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are cult members."

Of which cult?

Quote:>   "Linux development leader Alan Cox is a liar."

Who?

Quote:>   "Richard Stallman is a liar."

I have no idea.

Quote:>   "Linux distributions are not mature."

They do sometimes appear a little less than pleasant - Linux Mandrake is
the one I use and it sometimes gives a bad impression.

Quote:>   "Linux systems have to be rebuilt every day."

Really? That's news to me. I thought that might be true of Windows systems,
except "every day" is an exaggeration - try "every year".

Quote:>   "The Linux kernel has to be recompiled every day."

I've never needed to recompile my Mandrake 8.2 kernel.

Quote:>   "Linux is a shit pie."

Never said that.

Quote:>   "Linux application programs have to be compiled by the user."

Some do. Most seem to be on my Mandrake CD's.

Quote:>   "Linux developers are not nice people."

The few I've met have been very nice people.

Quote:>   "Linux applications are of poor quality and barely work."

Some are. So are some Windows applications.

Quote:>   "Linux text is small and hard to read."

It is true that X Windows without anti-aliased fonts can be difficult to
read.

Quote:>   "Linux is shoddy."

It sometimes does give that impression.

Quote:>   "You have to jump through the hoops to get Linux to install
>    properly."

Most things just work. Some things can be a pain.

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are linnuts."

Dunno.

Quote:>   "Linux fonts look like shit compared to windows fonts."

Linux doesn't have fonts. Perhaps that's part of the problem?

Quote:>   "Linux advocates are Linonuts."

Is repetition allowed?

Quote:>   "Linux involves a lot of work and nonsense."

Sometimes. So does Windows.

Quote:>   "Linux users spend more time configuring and compiling it
>    than using it."

The majority of Linux users are usually techies who like doing that sort of
thing. That's a generalisation - probably no longer true.

Quote:>   "Linux is always breaking."

Really? I thought that was the problem with Windows?

Quote:>   "Installing one Linux program breaks another."

Really? I thought that was the problem with Windows?

Quote:>   "Linux requires constant updating."

And Windows doesn't?

Quote:>   "Linuz software is beta quality."

Quite a lot seems to be unfinished.

Quote:>   "Using Linux results in a lot of time lost."

Not really my experience mostly (except for the two NICs problem I had).

Quote:>   "People who use linux do so as a way to think they're above
>    everyone else and elite."

That may be true. Being elistist is bad?

Quote:>   "It's an illusion to think linux is the better OS."

As a server OS it is better. Linux of itself is not a "desktop". The
applications that are desktops: "KDE" and "GNOME" are evolving and are
behind Windows in certain respects.

Quote:>   "Linux is slower and does lower quality work than MS-Windows."

And crashing often is quality?

Quote:>   "It takes hours of fighting with configuration files to get
>    Linux to work."

Then my Mandrake 8.2 system that worked after twenty minutes is a fluke?

Quote:>   "If the Linux installation program doesn't recognize some of
>    your hardware, there's generally no way to make Linux work."

Linux doesn't recognise some of my hardware - therefore it don't work.
Guess what? Windows XP doesn't recognise some of the same hardware. It
don't work either. Windows ME has all the drivers, so I use it the most.

Quote:>   "Everyone in cola is misusing the net as a resource."

Not true. Well, unless you're a complete Linux Troll that can't accept that
sometimes Windows gets it right.

Quote:>   "Open Source software is Open Sores."

Is it?

Now you know why Bill is selling his stock. WJ and Erik are just raking in
the bucks, and will soon be listed in Forbes. As for me, I can only say,
"Linux Sucks!"

Ka-ching! Wow! A payoff on my very first try!
