1. Getting latest version of Linux

Can anyone point me to a ftp or web site where I can get the latest
version of Linux of PCs?  Also, is there a way to launch Linux after
one boots up into DOS.  I need this feature as my hard drive loads
some kind of drive manager software resident in the boot sector and
Linux can not access the drive when boot by floppy as the driver is
not loaded.
