Can I  run MSoffice files (like word files or Excel) with Star Office
(or open office) when i'm using linux? And can I create files with
Star Office (or open office) on linux that can be read with MS OFFICE
on windows?

I'm going to be charitable and assume that you mean "read" where
you wrote "run."  In which  case, yes.  If, on the other hand,
you're trying to use Office files to deliver stealth executables,
the answer is basically "no."

Most of us consider this a Good Thing.

Yes.  Presuming that by "run" you really mean "open".  The Word Basic
macros in Word documents won't run in Star Office (not in the v5.2 I
have anyway), but you can view and edit the document.

Yes.

Yeah, why not, I do just that quite often.  I write work at university
(word, Excel, Win NT) and at home (OpenOffice, Mandrake Linux), transporting
files between the two happily.  Depends what you want to do though - in
some cases OO doesn't handle complex stuff in Office documents well.  I
have never had a problem, but as ever YMMV. :)

When I was considering the switch to Linux I had the same questions. To
answer it I downloaded StarOffice for Windows and loaded my Office
files and worked with them to see for myself. I switched when I was
convinced it would not be a problem.

Star Office/Open Office can read and write to MS Office Files.

When in Star Office/Open Office you can save your files as MS Office
files and MS Office will be able to read them.

1. Is Star Office just as crash prone as MS Office?

Because of my lack of time (full time job + nearly full time student) I
haven't had a chance to try out StarOffice. Many people (including
myself) are forced to use ms office at work and noticing the bloat and
reliability problems I can't believe what they payed for it... I have
heard star office is just as bad... Whats it like on FreeBSD and
Windows?

I'm currently using Wordperfect 8 at home and overall I'm pretty happy
with it except for the Word translater. Is StarOffice better? I still
need to write to word files well enough so that anyone using word can
still see 95% of the formating.

Thanks in advance for any comments...
