Erm....I *have* heard reports that one can easily wipe out
an entire disk (including, of course, any Linux partitions
within it) if something malfunctions on a badly-tuned Win95
installation.  Dunno if that still applies to Win98.

One could blame that on a bad SCSI driver, I suppose.
