The argument to end all pro-Linux arguments

Post by Steve Chan » Sun, 08 Dec 2002 03:06:05

If anyone comes along and talks about how they replaced Microsoft with any
Linux based solution in the real world

like, say, if their parents now use Linux instead of Windows XP
or there are any businesses that use Linux instead of Windows
NT/IIS/whatever

claim they made the story up.

Yup, that'll shut 'em up. Everyone will believe you.

I use Linux instead of Windows and the last time I checked I live in the
real world.

Lets see 4 computers here and not one running that virus known as winblows.
Brother runs it and the fiance who used this machine for the last month
emailed me complaining how stupid windows is set up.

What's the matter you couldn't figure out how to install it?

YOU LIAR!! YOU ARE FABRICATING!!!
YOU LIAR!! YOU ARE FABRICATING!!!
YOU LIAR!! YOU ARE FABRICATING!!!

You blasphemer! Bill Gates is muh hero!

C'mon. Seriously. I was making a parody of Windows evangelists and their
weak pathetic counter arguments. It seems every time someone shows Linux
can upstate Windows, some wintroll comes along and says "Oh that's a
fabrication!!" It's almost droidlike at times.

Windroids are more tenacious than paid marketers. And WHY?? They know their
OS is inferior, second rate, and plagiarized from the ground up. Are these
people getting some kind of payback in the mail or what?

Just think about this -  if you want to use an operating system for
telephone exchange, router, satellite control or fly by wire, safety
critical systems or flight navigation would you be happy if it were
a M$ OS, I think not! .............. Al

No-one does; that is not what it was designed for - and no-one has
ever claimed otherwise. So what is your point?

Or do you think your family sedan should be able to take people in
outer space? It is, after all, a vehicle, just as the space shuttle is
a vehicle.

No, but this shows its quality is very poor.

Actually, yes.  M$ has been caught filling newsgroups, chatrooms and

1. Pro-linux arguments

A guy I know is planning on installing MS Windows on his 486/66 with
240M disk and 8M RAM. Please help me to persuade him against that waste
of clockcycles! (no offense to people who like Windows...)

Since he's running 8M of RAM, he could run X, right? Is there any good
software for word processing equatable to WP or word for Windows available
for X that will work with Linux? How 'bout other applications? He's not
a computer scientist, so I'm hesitant to lead him toward unix, but I
think X-windows might be just the key.

Anybody care to suggest how I might be able to talk him into using linux
vs. DOS or Windows? Please mail & I can summarize if there is interest
(or you can post if you think others would benefit). I know this is a bit
of personal preferance and so-on, but I'd appreciate any attempts to help
out! Thanks in advance.
