Problems writing to Samba share, please help

Post by TheGnome » Sat, 19 Apr 2003 19:42:53

I can see my share from a Win 2k box just fine but when I go to save any
file, in this case test.txt to the share I get the following error appearing
on my Win 2k client:

e:\text.txt
you do not have permission to open this file
see owner of this file or an administrator to obtain permission.

How can I fix this problem? I'm using Red Hat 7.2 and the latest version of
Webmin.

Thank You Very Much!

There are NG's dedicated just to SAMBA issues. Also, the complete manual is
(on my distro at least) included somewhere in the installation; otherwise
just go to O'Reily's web site and browse the manual online.

You might want to try the linux.samba NG. But you should go read the
HOWTOs first
(http://us3.samba.org/samba/devel/docs/html/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html)

Sounds like you have a permissions issue. There are whole lot of different
way to setup Samba DOMAIN, USER, and SHARE level security with a whole
bunch of options. Easiest way if you are setting up just a little home
network is user level security and do a username map from your user on the
Win2k to a Linux user through Samba, then setup the permission on the
folder on the Linux box for the Linux user you just did the mapping for.
