Why don't these 'innovators' build a system that don't get viruses.
Embedded Linux running on flash ram for instance ?

although it never occured to me to actually click on it
i'm sure we've all gone to websites
where a window pops up and invites us to have our
systems checked for a possible virus

today, on my redhat box...
just for laughs i decided to click   and see what happened

i then got a message

Sorry, our virus checker only works on windows systems

guess i better dump linux and install windows asap

i feel sooo left out   :)

Hey, they're selling stuff for Linux. I'm not going to fault them for that.
Actually, I can think of a definite need for anti-virus software that runs
on Linux servers... to mainly to protect the Windows PCs that are connected
to them; as well as to protect Linux workstations running clients in WINE.
And it is possible that somebody will put some dumb-ass auto-executing
script feature in a client on the assumption that they have to fill out all
the checkboxes in a feature grid. If nothing else, I agree with this
statement: "The Linux operating system is easily recoverable but
the end user's data is not," so more power to 'em. Let 'em sell.

The real concern on 'nix platforms is not virii.  Viruses are for kids to
prove themselves l33t and companies to make money.

True kr4x0rs, like those in the 'nix world, are much more interested in
gaining control of your box to use for whatever purpose (maybe off-site
compiles? ;-)

With the advent of LGX, there is gonna be a hell of alot of computing
power out there just wating to be exploited.  This is were companies
should target their products IMHO.

Could still be very useful in the "bullshit baffles brains" department.
More than once I've come across posts / articles about how someone had
been banned by management from using a Linux based solution because
"there is no antivirus software for Linux", Desktop AntiVirus anyone?
Now they can tell management there is a choice of AV software for
Linux.  And as someone else pointed out, you can always use it to
protect Windows clients.

Regards
Jim

There's a computational site dedicated for curing cancer via
