Well, now begins the public voicing of a new radicalism.  I'm not sure
this is a good tactic.

Maybe not the best tactic, but nothing else is working. Valenti and his
cronies are hell bent on making sure they 0wn j00 and your PC. They _know_
their time is over and their business model is dead, but like any good
monopoly/cartel are determined to squeeze the last bit of money out of it.

They can have their crappy movies. (How many movies do you _actually_ watch
more than once?)

On the other hand if they don't do something that will get widespread
attention then the interest of the public *will* be ignored.  In the
end, though, it'll probably be political donations that carry the day.

If the public is unrepresented, then we must take what ever action is nessisary
and possible.

The politicians and big business do not want to hear from the people in this
matter. The rights of the public will only get in the way.

I'm not totally comfortable with it either, but in this case the activists
seem to have done a good job without coming off as anarchist loonies.  The
quote questioning why consumers had no representation at the meeting is
absolutely right - especially when the proposed legislation would affect
people who want nothing to do with intellectual property in question,
legally or illegally.

Starwars (all episodes), Startrek, LOTR, Dune, Soldaat van Oranje, E.T.,
The Matrix, De Lift, Interview with a Vampire, Das Boot, Delicatesse,
Titanic, Fifth Element, Turks Fruit, Jesus Christ Superstar etc. etc.

These are all movies that I can come up now which are amongst many more
that I saw many times and am still very fond of :-)

I guess that's one way to describe freedom loving Americans that believe
they have a right to have a say in government.  Or do like the idea of
big business making the laws?

I don't have many movies myself, but I can relate. There are some movies
that are worth watching, but how many movies are just *that some "star"
wrote or some hot director wanted to do? I mean, look at "Battlefield:
Earth" for a prime example of *for crap's sake. How many movies are
"straight to video"?

It's like the Music industry, 99% pure bull shit ;)

Oops, sorry about that.  I wasn't really thinking about that since these
guys were mostly from a local LUG.

Yes, music has very little to do with what's coming out of the recording
industry.  In the face of public outcry, the RIAA insisted upon the
"free speach rights" of gang-bangers and their cop-killer/hate-music.
Now they can't understand why nobody is buying their crap.  I'll tell
you what, if I listened to that *all day, I'd want to kill people
too.

IMHO, Napster was the greatest thing to ever happen to older, out of
print music.  How can a company calculate a market loss, when the main
material being exchanged is not even available anymore.  They're only
mad because they can't dictate what you listen to.  Napster had nothing
to do with falling recording sales, in fact it caused a temporary surge
in sales, especially in the used album market.

How many movies do I actually watch _once_ is a better question. Their
attempts at forcing me to pay for anything I decide to see each time I see
it will only reduce the numbers even further. I'll refuse to see them the
first time, and I'll encourage others to do the same for awhile.

Seriously.  I can only think of maybe 5 movies ( spanning across 70
years ) that I would be willing to pay 20 + dollars to own.

If the entertainment industry wants to reduce piracy they could try
improving the quality of their products and reducing their prices into
a reasonable range.

Far fewer would go to the _trouble_ of stealing their products if they
prices were reasonable and the quality justified forking out the cash.
