So you have the answer you knew before you first posted. There is no
major OEM that provides Linux on its laptops as standard. Who buys
laptops? Mainly businesses for employees on the move or must take
their work home with them. And what OS do these businessmen use? The
sad fact is there isn't enough of a demand for Linux on laptops. That
will change.
I'm running gentoo on my company Dell Latitude writing
this. Installation was trivial. WLAN connection to the wireless access
point my company gave me so that I could post to COLA while having a
core dump. WLAN access at work when I must attend a meeting and need
access to the company's network.
Even if a major OEM offered Linux on their laptops you would probably
still pay the MS tax. If you buy a laptop with XP Home you still need to
buy XP Pro to use it for business.
To plug Dell the display on this laptop is superb. 1600x1200, it can
do higher, is excellent. And I'm blind in one eye and don't have great
vision in the other. They are the laptop of choice where I work.
