Looking for Linux CDs --- poor college student

Post by J Mozeles » Fri, 28 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hello,

I am  currently a college student at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.   As such, I             do not have much much money, if any at all.

I was wondering if maybe someone has some Linux distribution CDs that they could give, lend, or sell very cheaply to me.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford the prices I see at Wlanut Creek CDROM and other.
Downloading from an ftp site is not feasible, as i only have a 2-3MB quota on the schools system, and cannot download direct to my pc.

Thank you for any and all help!

Please e-mail me if you can help:

-Hello,
-
-I am  currently a college student at Shippensburg University in
-Pennsylvania.   As such, I do not have much much money, if any at all.

Such is the life of the college student. ;-(

-
-I was wondering if maybe someone has some Linux distribution CDs that they
-could give, lend, or sell very cheaply to me.

If cheaply is defined as less than $10 than you may be able to purchase
a brand spanking new CD yourself. Cheapbytes (www.cheapbytes.com) and
Linux Systems Labs (www.lsl.com) both have Linux CDROM's with the latest
SLackware, RedHat, and Debian distributions for $5.99 and $2.98 + SH
repectively. Get the absolute latest for less than $10.

-
-Unfortunately, I cannot afford the prices I see at Wlanut Creek CDROM and
-other.  Downloading from an ftp site is not feasible, as i only have a
-2-3MB quota on the schools system, and cannot download direct to my pc.

Plus its a pain in the *to download via FTP anyway.

Now if you absolutely must get one free you need to check out the Linux CD
Giveaway. Here's the URL:

http://www.veryComputer.com/:8000/giveaway.html/

Just remember to do the same with someone you know when you get a chance.

Good Luck.

You should be interested in the Linux CD and Support Giveaway. They are
giving Linux Cd's away for free :-)

I haven't tried it myself but it may be a good way of getting (old?)
Linux CD for free :-)

Try: http://emile.math.ucsb.edu:8000/giveaway.html

Good luck :-)

CheapBytes has the Red Hat CD and Debian.  Red Hat is $1.99 and
Debian is $2.99

An important note of distinction.  The CheapBytes CD *has source code*
included.  That is why there is one distribtuion on a CD.

1. looking for college students

Hi all!

My VeeP has asked me to take a survey of Universities with
good Computer Science programs to see what portion of the
graduates have certain skills.  I can't just go to the related
newgroups and ask, because that would slew the results.

So I figured I'd turn to my fellow net-folk.
If you attend a Colege/University with a good
computer science program and either you're in the program or
have friends who are who wouldn't mind answering a few simple
questions (or if you can write the pseudo-code to diagram the
first part of this sentence), then please drop me an email so I can
ask you the few questions (I don't want to post them here as that
might affect your decision to respond....unbiased polls are
_so_ much fun ;-) ).

Thanks in advance
Todd Gilbert
