Dual monitor patches for linux, ggi, XTkeyboard

Hi!

I'm looking for dual monitor patches under linux. I found something,
but it was SO old (1.1.XXX?) that it was unusable. Does someone know
about something newer? (I've heard that there's some project which
wants to rewrite consoles completely and will include such features -
but I do not have pointer...). Ideal would be patch against 2.1.7.

Also, I tried to install ggi under 2.0.24, but I failed with some
kernel panic or so. Is there some one out there who uses it
successfully? Is there way to make ggi working under 2.1.7?

And last thing: Is there any hope to make XT keyboard working under
linux? Is there hope to connect keyboard to other place than
keyboard connector? Preferably serial, even with a bit of hardware
patches is acceptable.

Any pointers / info welcome.

One problem is that people disagree about the purpose. Some people
want all the text consoles on the mono monitor, and graphics _only_
on the color monitor. Some people just want the mono monitor as
/dev/mono for kernel messages. Some (sick, IMHO) people want to
use both for text consoles, so they invent strange keyboard commands
to switch back and forth.

GGI does that.  http://synergy.caltech.edu/~ggi/

GGI has not moved to 2.1.x yet. It is hard to develop a driver
when you can not be sure if kernel crashes are caused by your
driver or by all the other experimental code in 2.1.x.

It should work in 2.0.24. If not, please report the kernel panic
and any other information you have to the GGI mailing list.
The subscription info should be at http://synergy.caltech.edu/~ggi/.
(the mailing list uses smartlist, not majordomo)

I doubt it. Try a motherboard with access bus or UDB (don't ask me).

1. Dual Boot--Dual Monitor in win98--X trouble with Linux

Hey...

I've just set up a dual boot machine in my office--win98 and RedHat Linux
6.0.  Under win98, I run dual monitors, using a Diamond SpeedStar A50 8mb
AGP as my primary and a Cirrus Logic 5446 2mb PCI.  Running Xconfigurator
under Linux, the only card picked up is the Cirrus 5446, though my actual
display remains on the monitor attached to the AGP card.  If I remove the
Cirrus card, reboot Linux, and run the Xconfigurator, I am able to configure
the AGP card just fine.  If I put the Cirrus card back in after configuring
the AGP, getting X to work, and rebooting, there are fatal X server errors
when trying to startx.

I've scoured the BIOS, and discovered that I cannot disable the PCI slot
that the Cirrus card sits in--I thought I might be able to just disable it
when I wanted Linux, and enable it when I wanted win98.

So...

Is there any way to tell Linux to ignore that Cirrus card, maybe on boot?
Or at any other point critical to X?

I am a newbie with Linux... so please be patient.

Thanks
Jeremy Jones
