problem mount SCSI-ZIP drive

Post by Andreas Blo » Wed, 29 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Hello

I have a problem to acces my zipdrive.
I have build a new kernal with SCSI support and read the SCSI-HOWTO but
I have no idea. I have a future domain tmc850 scsi controler.
I booted with and whithout a zipdisk (boot message follows) :

.
.
.
TMC-8XX/TMC-950 options: ARBITRATE SLOW_HANDSHAKE FAST32
scsi0 : TMC-8XX/TMC-950 at irq 3, address 0xCA000
scsi : 1 host.
Vendor: IOMEGA    Model: ZIP 100           Rev: C.18
Type:   Direct-Access                      ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi disk sda at scsi0, id 5, lun 0
scsi : detected 1 SCSI disk total.
.
.
.

OK now I want to mount the zip but :

Quote:>mount -t msdos /dev/sda /mnt/zip

mount: wrong type or bad superblock on /dev/sda

i even tried sda1 .... sda?? ... sdb .......

with fdisk I got the following :

Quote:>fdisk -l

Disk /dev/hda: 15 heads, 62 sectors, 899 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 930 * 512 bytes
.
.
.
Disk /dev/sda: 0 heads, 0 sectors, 0 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1 * 512 bytes

Device Boot  Begin   Start     End  Blocks   Id  System

If I tried to set the partitions :

Quote:>fdisk /dev/sda

You must set cylinders.
You can do this from the extra functions menu.

SO I had to know how many cylinders and heads ... a zip has and where to set
them ...

Any ideas ????

        Thanks in advance
                Andreas Blome

PS: please personal mail because I post this in a lot newsgroups and I haven't
the time to read them all to get a answer.

I had the same problem with a TMC950 card and every kind of SCSI disk.
It's not a ZIP problem, you should initialize your disk on another PC, after that
everything (mkfs, etc...) should work normally...

1. Problem mounting SCSI ZIP drive

Hi,

I hope you guys can help me with this problem.

I am running RH4.2. I have no DOS partition.

I can write and read from the ZIP drive (/dev/sdd) using tar

However trying

mount -t ext2 /dev/sdd1 /mnt/zip

fails with following error message

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdd1,
or too many mounted file systems

I can see the partition using linux fdisk

Disk /dev/sdd: 64 heads, 32 sectors, 96 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 bytes

Device Boot   Begin    Start      End   Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sdd1            1        1       96    98288   83  Linux native

So what am I doing wrong. What do I need to do to mount this device.
All help and advice is most appreciated.

If you are replying by e-mail, please remove -nospam from my address

Best regards,
    Zahid
