Hi,
I have a probem with ALSA with linux kernel 2.4.0.
I know some people have already posted this problem.
However, I could not find the proper answer.
In my case, I installed it with proper following the steps.
But sound does not comes out.
Any idea?
What is the correct way to install on kernel 2.4.0?

There's nothing special about compiling alsa under 2.4.0 (assuming you're
using the latest alsa version). If you're asking about where to put the
modules, I put them in /lib/modules/2.4.0/kernel/drivers/sound.

Dear all,
Here is another newbie question for your entertainment :)
I have installed SuSE 7.3 onto an old laptop, which has an ESS Maestro
2E sound card. To cut a long story short, I can either use the Kernel
drivers (which are actually producing sound right now) or upgrade my
ALSA system (module?) to the next version to get the card working under
ALSA. My question is: does using ALSA give any advantages over the
kernel drivers?
If it does, I will probably learn a lot by upgrading it but if there is
no
advantage, I will sit back and actually enjoy using my machine for a
while :)
