Check out http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/mini/IO-Port-Programming .
It will walk you through how to do it.  There was also a full
code-example posted here a little while ago.  You could search through
usenet on altavista to find it, probably.

Take a look at the "IO Port Programming mini HOWTO". It can be found via
ftp at sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/mini (or mirrors like
ftp.cc.gatech.edu which are less crowded) or via http://www.linux.org
under the FAQs and HOWTOs link.
