Western Digital SCSI cards

Post by Mark Degn » Wed, 15 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Is there going to be support for the new Western Digital SCSI
cards (particularly the WD7197) in new updates to the 1.3
kernel?  If so, when?  I have just purchased one of the cards
and never having had to worry about it before when compiling a
kernel, I just now found out that there is no driver for these
cards.  Any info is appreciated.  Please reply to:

1. Help with old Western Digital SCSI card

Last weekend I picked up an old Western Digital SCSI card from a PC
swap meet.  As per all cards you get from these places there was not
even a hint of documentation with it, just a price.  :-)

It is a old style full length 16 bit ISA board with many discrete
chips on it.

Basically it has the following jumpers on it:

Block   Jumpers
------  --------------------------------------------

W1      D7 D6 D5 D4 D3 D2 D1 D0
W2      BDEN A9 A8 A7 A6 A5 A4 A3
W3      A12 A13 A14 A15 A16 ROMEN
W7      DRQ7 DRQ6 DRQ5 DRQ0 DACK7 DACK6 DACK5 DAC40
        IRQ15 IRQ14 IRQ12 IRQ11 IRQ10
W8      IRQ3 IRQ4 IRQ5 IRQ6 IRQ7 IRQ9
        DACK1 DACK2 DACK3 DRQ1 DRQ2 DRQ3

...And the following chips:

Chips:  WDC'85
        WD33C93-PL
        00-0 8827
        534219201

BIOS:   62-000110-062
        WDC '88 (or B8?)

...And the following SCSI connectors:

50 pin internal & Centronics female external

...on bootup its BIOS says...

        WDSCS-ATS Host Adapter Bios V1.2
        Copywrite ..<blah blah blah>... 1986

Is it an old WD7000, or what?  And can it be used under Linux?

Any help in identifying this piece of SCSI history, and any hints on
how to set up the jumpers for the Linux default of:
 *    - BIOS at CE00h
 *    - I/O base address 350h
      - IRQ level 15
      - DMA channel 6
would be very much appreciated.

(Well, I can guess the IRQ15, and the DMA6, bit the BIOS & I/O addresses
are a bit harder.)
