Xpaint Error I r tried re-compiling...

Post by Andrew Joseph Wei » Fri, 09 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I just tried re-compiling XPaint... my original Slackware version is
screwed up.  I am running kernel 2.0.0 with Libc 5.3.12, and Gcc2.7.2
When I run I still get the old error as follows:
valkyrie~:> xpaint &
[1] 527
valkyrie:~# X Error of failed request:  BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or
Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request:  14 (X_GetGeometry)
Resource id in failed request:  0x0
Serial number of failed request:  508
Current serial number in output stream:  508

If anyone has a working copy of this, please let me know.  I am running
Afterstep 0.98a16 wm... and I have the newest libjpeg, and libtiff.  I have
LibXPM is 4.3.

Thanks
Andrew

Newsflash: xpaint is buggy, and nothing was being done about it the last time
I cared to check.

There isn't anything you can do; it will flake out even if you moved to a
completely different hardware/OS.

Use Thorsten Martinsens modified (extended) version of xpaint. See

        http://www2.dk-online.dk/users/Torsten_Martinsen/INDEX.HTM

for details.
The X11R5 contrib version (2.1) doesn't run well - jpeg support still needs
libjpeg 4 (which is incompatible to 5 or 6), andsoon ...

Bye !

This is the kind of error message you get if something else is eating up
your colour palette when you run xpaint - say, Netscape Navigator for
instance...

1. Error while re-compiling

Ive recently installed Linux 1.1.59 for the first time, and by default the
kernel does not have my CDROM drivers, or PPP.  So I re-compile.  I make
sure all the symlinks are in place and then do the "makes".  But after a
while in the "make zlilo" or "make zImage" i get this error:

cpp: output pipe has been closed

then the compiling stops.  What does this mean?
