Is there support for the Cirrus 5434 chipset in the new
X11R6.1G release for 16bpp and 32bpp? I cannot seem to get it to
work unless I only put it 8mb of RAM :( . I can't live with only eight.
Does anyone know if it is supported or another way to get around the
linear addressing problem? That is the "must have <14mb to run X
in linear addressing mode/option".

I have a cl5434 and 16MB of ram, and I can run 16bpp fine, (with the
exception of some screen flicker when the cursor moves). However, I
hav the PCI version of the card. According to the Xfree docs, the ISA
version cannot remap the linear framebuffer above 16MB. This sounds
like the problem you are having.

I have the PCI version of the cl5434 also. I can use 16bpp at all
resolutions. According to the documentation that came with my card, the
controller can support 32bpp at the lowest resolution (640x480).
However, XFree86 claims it cannot support 32bpp at any resolution.
I just don't think it's implemented yet (and for that resolution, it's
hardly worth it either).
