patch 1.2.9 and kdiffs for quota+acct

patch 1.2.9 and kdiffs for quota+acct

Post by Patrick Reijn » Sat, 03 Jun 1995 04:00:00

Hi guys,

I found a small problem with the new kernel patch 1.2.9. Since patch 1.2.5
i have installed the quota + acct stuff with the 1.2.5quota+acct kernel
diffs. with patch 1.2.9 patching linux/fs/open.c goes completely wrong.

checking patch 1.2.9 against the kernel diffs of quota+acct, I have to say that
in both patches at lot is changed in the open.c file. It even looks like
one patch needs what the other patch removes.

So at this moment i cannot installed the quota+acct system again. As I don't
know much about the kernel and the quota stuff, I'm really looking for a patch
for quota+acct against kernel patch 1.2.9.

I would really appreciate it when somebody can arrange this kind of patch.

Thanks,

Patrick Reijnen

patch 1.2.9 and kdiffs for quota+acct

Why can't quota be rolled into the standard kernel, and then #ifdef'd
in or out by make config?

Please FTP to ftp.cistron.nl and look in /os/linux/kernels/v1.2/
for complete kernel sources including AHA294Xi- and quota-support

Hi Danny,

implemented you quota_diffs_1.2.9. They are BUGGY !!!!. I don't know what
version of quota+acct you have used to patch to 1.2.9, But i found two bugs
that where gone with the quota+acct diffs for kernel 1.2.5. I quote them:

1) PF_* flags in include/linux/sched.h were defined double, every process was
executed as root (for an acct point of view) and was dumping core.

2) acct was not turned off during rebooting so file system in which acct
file was residing was considered busy and consequently uncorrectly
unmounted. (Have a look in fs/super.c)

Furthermore, i got a 'function not implemented' when quotaon was used during
bootup, making quota not switched on at all ........

I you want to have the quota+acct 1.2.5 kernel diffs, please let me know. I
still have them arround. I onlydon't know how to apply them to 1.2.9 correctly.

It doesn't look like your list covers all the bugs in quota+acct1.2.5.
I was able to fill quota with dd overriting a file even though I had
only few KB in my directory. Some people claim that reverse is possible
as well - i.e. one can have more files than allowed by quota but I
didn't managed to do that. The kernel I tried wa 1.2.5.
Is there any version which is not buggy?

1. Looking for acct, quota patches to 1.0.9 kernel

Slackware 2.0 ROCKS!  Incredible color install program, a ton of new
utilities added, everything fits together perfectly...

...Except the 'acct' patch.  I use the 1.0.9 kernel because it is the latest
stable (non-beta) release, and need a version of 'acct' which I can patch
into it.  I looked on the Q disks, and there is a kernel there with 'acct'
but it is 1.1.*.  The 'acct' patch included with the distribution only works
with 1.1.21.  'patch' expects an EXACT match, and the small tweaks with
the many Linux patchlevels break it.

So: I need an 'acct' patch for kernel 1.0.9.  That's ONE-POINT-OH-POINT-NINE.
If anyone knows where I can find such a thing, toss me some email!

Thanks!

Josh
