1.3.42: mode 80x50 no matter what

1.3.42: mode 80x50 no matter what

Post by Vincent Fati » Sat, 18 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Reading patch-1.3.42 suggests that "-2" now represents mode 80x28.

I did an "rdev -v kernel_name -2. This may have worked since "rdev -v
kernel_name" returns 65534 ... (?). But it still boots up in 80x50.

I had no overriding "vga = ..." in lilo.conf. I tried putting one there,
"vga = -2" ... no good, I still get 80x50.

In fact, I boot up in mode 80x50 no matter how I use "rdev" or what the
"vga" line in lilo.conf says.

I've been making kernels (and using mode 80x28) since 1.0.? My hardware
hasn't changed, nor is it bizarre ... ATI Graphics Ultra.

I noticed a label "m80x28" in setup.S with no jumps to it ... a bit strange.

There has been an effort to remove video code from the kernel.
Use SVGATextMode to set up your text mode instead.
Suggestion: 80x30 with an 8x16 font, or 80x40 with an 8x12 font.

1. 1.3.42: stuck in 80x50 mode

Rdev -v doesn't seem to work anymore. I tried -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2; they all
result in 80x50 mode. I'd really like 80x28 back. My video card is an ATI
Graphics Ultra.

Thanks.
