wu.ftpd FTP server shut down -- please try again later.

Post by Juan Tubone » Mon, 09 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I have been having problems with this one machine for a while.
When I try to ftp to my machine, I gtethe following results:

dins:~# ftp localhost
Connected to localhost.
500 dins FTP server shut down -- please try again later.
ftp>

I don't knwo what the problem is, I've replaced the wu.ftpd with one
from a working machine, checked my inetd.conf, ftpaccess, ftpgroups,
etc.. and everything looks okay.  I've even replaced my tcpd.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

: JT> When I try to ftp to my machine, I gtethe following results:

: rm /etc/ftpshut

dins:~# rm /etc/ftpshut
rm: /etc/ftpshut: No such file or directory

so I...

mv /usr/bin/ftpshut /usr/bin/ftpshut.old

then tried...

dins:~# ftp localhost
Connected to localhost.
500 dins FTP server shut down -- please try again later.

See if you have a file in your /etc directory called shutmsg or
something like that.  If so delete it cuz the ftp server may look for
that file to see whether it is supposed to be shut down or not.

Delete the file that tells wu-ftpd that it is shutdown.  See
/etc/ftpaccess for the name of that file (usually shutmsg).

Try rm /etc/wu-ftpd/ftpshut or /usr/local/etc/wu-ftpd/ftpshut
