Q3A segfaults with 2.4.8

Post by Garett Spencle » Mon, 13 Aug 2001 10:50:08

Hi,

I have no idea how to debug this so some insight would be very helpful.
Quake3 arena is crashing with 2.4.8 and 2.4.8-ac1.

I'm pretty sure it's related to the emu10k1 changes because the last
output is:

...loading 'scripts/sky.shader'
...loading 'scripts/test.shader'
----- finished R_Init -----

------- sound initialization -------
------------------------------------
Received signal 11, exiting...

It works fine with 2.4.7 and -ac series.

Here's my system info:

Mandrake 8.0

Q3A segfaults with 2.4.8

Post by Daniel T. Che » Mon, 13 Aug 2001 12:10:06

Hrm, I upgraded from 2.4.7-ac11 + EMU10K1 CVS v0.15 diffs to 2.4.8 + Rui's
patch + Juha's AC3 SMP fix + Andrea's 2.4.8aa1, and quake3 1.29h PR works
fine here. I did compile with gcc version 2.95.4 20010721 (Debian pre
release), however.

Q3a works fine for me, as before.

My current configuration:

Red Hat 7.1 + all updates
Xfree86 4.1 (rawhide rpms)
kernel 2.4.8 + Andrew Morton's low latency patches.
Penium III 933/512 MB RAM/Voooo 3 AGP

Oops sorry. I can't believe I did that. Here's the _real_ strace (where
it segfaults).

$ strace ./quake3.x86

1. Linux Q3A

Jeeeeez,

This is really driving me up a wall. I'm totally lost here. I've been at
this for almost four days now.

Which files do I need?

I want to run a dedicated Quake III Arena server on my RedHat Linux 7.0
machine.

I found a bunch of different versions and a zillion hacks saying copy this
file here, copy those files there, run this script, delete that cfg, copy
those pak files, use this command line - it's endless.

Exactly which versions of which files should I download and how should I
install things to simply run a Q3A dedicated server on a Linux machine?

Please help,

TIA
