(re)naming kernel?

Post by Tobias Jah » Thu, 10 Jan 2002 17:02:57

Hello world!

How do I rename a kernel's name from i.e. "2.4.17" to "2.4.17-somespecial"?

This would be helpful to install different configured versions of the same
kernel at one time. As this is no problem for the kernel itself, I thought it
is necessary for the modules directory to have a unique name (identical to the
kernel's name).

Or do I have a wrong understanding regarding this?

Greetings,
Tobias

Edit the Makefile in the kernel-src directory (e.g.
/usr/src/linux-1.2.34/Makefile) and add a string like "-myver" to the line
containing the string "EXTRAVERSION = "

No. You might also want to search for the possiblity to load different
/etc/modules.conf'igs for different kernels. Maybe.

Chnage the EXTRAVERSION line on the kernel Makefile. (Nominally in
sr/src/linux)
