SCSI backup problem on RH 7.2

SCSI backup problem on RH 7.2

Post by Thoma » Thu, 25 Apr 2002 23:48:21

Hi,

When using tar/cpio, the process hangs after a couple of minutes.

The configuration is: RH 7.2 with adaptec 2904 and Sony SDT-7000.

The same problem has been seen on another server, with exactly same HW.

It works on servers with same HW using RH 7.0 !!

So the problem has come in RH 7.2!

Does anybody know a solution, besides installing RH 7.0 instead?

Help will be appreciated.

smells of kernel then, the RH7.0 distro uses a 2.2 kernel ,where the RH7.2
distro uses a 2.4 kernel.

Custom compile a new kernel, 2.4.18 and above.

1. scsi disk problem (running rh 7.2)

Hi,

I have a problem with a server i recently got. It was running nt (i
tested it and know it was working properly) and i installed rh 7.2 on
it.

First i had problems with installing, it hung at loading aixxx so i
booted the install with 'linux apic' and got it installed without
further problem.

When i first booted i again hung, while initialising the disks, it
says:

Adaptec AIC-7896/7 Ultra2 SCSI
scsi: aborting command due to timeout

then it keeps trying and trying (it even says trying harder :)
so i thought it might be the same apic thingy, therefor in grub i
added apic after the kernelname but that made no diff.

So i tried bootdisk with 'linux apic rescue' and it can find AND mount
all the partitions. The part that hungs in normal boot works just fine
in the rescue, ie the part where normal prints 'aborting due to...'
passes by without trouble.

Anyone got a clue? what to do?

if you need the broken dmesg output, please tell me how to get that as
it never mounts the device in normal bootup.

/Jon
