Mark,
I ran into the same issue and resolved it by doing the following:
1. In Active Sync, go to Tools-Options and un-check the "Inbox" option.
2. Un-Dock and Re-Dock your PPC, allowing Active Sync to Syncronize.
3. Go back into Tools-Options, put the check mark back in the "Inbox"
option and "Ok".
Active Sync should re-sync with your Inbox normally.
