IE/ActiveSync over WiFi stopped working

Post by Kevin Halber » Tue, 10 Dec 2002 02:58:24

Well, strange enough after so much success with my iPAQ
3640 without any hard resets (many soft ) IE and
ActiveSync over the WiFi link don't work.  IE brings up
local help pages just fine, but when asked to bring up an
IE page it flashes the Windows IE logo in the top right
and then nothing happens.  ActiveSync tries to connect and
never succeeds.  My DHCP info. looks good and I can telnet
to my servers and to some from a VPN link, but traceroute
does not complete to Internet sites.  All other systems
can reach the internet fine.  Anyone have any ideas?

would guess that something changed in your dhcp service

look at your ppc's ip address with vxUtil and see if it has been
assigned, what the dns values are, etc.

if you had a host entry on your ppc, your pc's ip address might have changed

if you were on a larger network, was the wins server changed or did your
  pc's name change?

I checked the DHCP entry with VxUtil and everything looks
fine.  I can ping my Pocket PC from my servers and I can
resolve names to IP addresses.  The trace function to
www.microsoft.com or www.telocity.com end after 9 hops and
indicate Trace Incomplete.

IE/ActiveSync over WiFi stopped working

More details, I am using the PC Card Adapter with an
ORINOCO Silver card.  It has been working fine and seems
to allow me to do everything (FTP, Browse File Shares,
Check Driver, etc.) except to do what I am having trouble
with.  I have installed the HP Print utility that just
came out, I am not sure if I checked IE/ActiveSync
afterwards or not.  Wondering if this is an issue with
something that has been altered.  Wonder what I could
check in the registry?

Hmm, are you running the Orinoco drivers, or the Compaq WL110 drivers with
your card? I'm using the WL110 drivers with no problem (and yes I have an
Orinoco card silver and gold). You might try installing the WL110 drivers
and see if that helps. Also first try resetting the internet connection by
running welcome in your /windows/ folder

Excellent!!! Running Welcome worked...I had to choose my
connections from the Connection Page, but after that
everything is working great.  Thank you very much for the
help.  I was relieved that no hard reset was needed.  I am
curious as to what the Welcome program does, it sets up
the Pocket PC as when you first get it, but what does it
do to the network connections?  I am wondering what may
have happened that it fixed?  Are any other things reset
that will affect operations later (program settings or
Control Panel settings?)  From what I saw everything is in
order!

This group is so helpful, I am really impressed by the
level of support, knowledge and professionalism that is
show here.

Thank you very much,
Kevin
