Hi,
Our site use ftp to transfer file during night time. I want to
monitor or log all the ftp activities, such as what files have been put
to my system and when. Anybody know some tools for this? I thing one
can write a C program to check he port that ftp uses. But I just don't
have the time and I need the tool(s) now. Thansk in advance.

At my site I am very happy with the Washington University Archive (wuarchive)
version of ftpd. It traces ftp activity nicely and allows monitoring of incoming
ftp traffic (as far as outgoing is concerned you'll need a hacked version of
the ftp command which I don't know if and where it exists).

You'll find the sources for the wuftpd at wuarchive.wustl.edu. Hope this answers
your question. ANYBODY OUT THERE who knows of a modified ftp command to monitor
outgoing ftp traffic ?

Replace your ftp daemon with wuftpd.  wuftpd has many options,
and can perform logging of who transfers what.  wuftpd is
available at many anonymous ftp sites; check your favorite
and/or query archie.  I think the current version of wuftpd
is 2.1 (?).

1. tools for monitoring network activities & traffics

Is there any tools in public domain that can monitor the
network activities and traffics? (says, tcplogger, nfswatch,
snmp, ... etc). We have some Ultrix DEC and SunOS SUN servers.
These servers and their clients are linked up
by SynOptics 3000 concentrators. We would like to tune up our
network but we need to have some data of our network activities
and traffics first.

I would very appreciate it if anyone could inform me these tools
via e-mail. Thanks.
