Looking for System Administrator Job Description

Post by John H. Chauv » Thu, 07 Jul 1994 23:07:54

A couple months a ago an article appeared in one of the Unix magazines
(Unix Review, Open Systems, AdvancedSystems, Open Computing, SysAdmin, etc)
in which they presented job descriptions for a entry level, mid-level, and
seasoned system administrator. I cannot seem to locate the article. Does anyone
remember reading the article? What magazine and issue was it?

If anyone has a copy of these job descriptions they can send me I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thanks for the help,

John Chauvin

You'll probably want to check out ftp.sage.usenix.org:/pub/sage/jobs/.

About the sysadmin job description:

Don't know the one but to muddy the waters further, there was also a nice
article in "communications of the ACM" about 3 years back about the
characteristics of a good systems administrator. At least I'm sure of the
magazine name!
If you gapher around or go to a college library with INFOTRAC, you'll probably
dig it up.

Ask SAGE/USENIX. There have been several issues of login; (a USENIX
publication) dealing with job descriptions for sysadmin.

They also have a Web server: http://www.usenix.org/ will get to the
Usenix/SAGE home page. I was able to get the SAGE job descriptions
file by following a few links.
