HELP, /var was deleted !!!!!!

Post by Pau » Sun, 06 Aug 1995 04:00:00

A new sys admin of mine accidentally deleted the /var directory and then logged out of the system.  Is there a
boot sequence that will allow me to do a mkdir and copy files off diskkette?

The boot -s, single user mode, doesn't allow this.  I need to desperatley get back into this system and put back
this directory and related files.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

This is under Solaris 2.4 OS.

I'm not familiar with Solaris, but why can't you mkdir or copy files in
single user mode?  Does it require a program from the /var directory, or
were other things also deleted such as /bin or /dev?  Is the diskette
mountable, or is it a tar archive?
