We get the following error about 10 times per hour or more.
Jul 12 11:31:03 my.machine.edu sendmail[22903]:
NOQUEUE: SYSERR: putoutmsg (outside.machine.com):
error on output channel sending "220 ESMTP spoken here":
Host is unreachable
Details:
- Each time the message refers to a different host
- The hosts are reachable via ping.
- I inserted newlines for readability (the actual message contains
no newlines).
Also, these lines appear in /var/spool/mail/qf*:
MDeferred: Connection reset by peer with some.machine.com
Mtimeout waiting for input during client MAIL
MDeferred: Connection reset by peer during client QUIT with foo.bar.edu
