There are a lot of sources that will tell you that you need to go
out and get the latest version of sendmail as the version that
came with your O.S. probably has bugs in it. This is not as true
as it used to be. Many O.S. vendors operate on an older version
of sendmail because it's a version that has all the known bugs
fixed in it. They might (as they upgrade there O.S.) switch to
a newer version to get more functionality, but usually they will
switch to one that has been out for a while and is fairly stable
in terms of security holes. Often times (in terms of security,
IMHO), you are better off sticking with the sendmail that came
with the O.S. and just make sure you download the latest patches
from your O.S. vendor. When you download the latest version of
sendmail, you may well find ourself in the "patch the security
hole of the day" club. If you have to ask where sendmail is, I
doubt you are going to stay on top of the latest security patches
very well (just calling them as I see them) and so I think you
are better off with the sendmail that comes from your O.S. vendor.
Now if you have no support contract from your vendor and you need
one to get security patches, then that might be a different story.
Download sendmail, but look for a stable older version rather
than the latest.

I get into enough trouble speaking for myself.
Depends on what security is in question. Not all vendors are shipping
a sendmail that can have junkmail relaying turned off, and vendors may
not have a sendmail with junkmail relay block capability available for
some older versions of their OS.

I'm a student at the University of Mississippi and my next programming

doing this? And if so, some sample code or description of "how to"
would be much appreciated. Thanx.
