Help Needed: SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 Installation.

Post by Fred Goldbe » Fri, 08 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Just purchased SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 Enterprise Edition and can not get it
installed.

Hardware Configuration:
Pentium 133MHz w/ 32MB RAM
Trident 8900 Video Card
On Board dual EIDE Controller (#1 enabled & #2 disabled)
Mitsumi 4X CDROM (set as Master)
Adaptec 2940 SCSI Controller
4GB IBM SCSI Drive (Add=0)
3COM 3C509 NIC

At Boot prompt, I enter the following
   defbootstr Srom=wd(0,0,0,0) Sdsk=alad(0,0,0,0)
The boot proceeds, builds a boot kernel and correctly displays my hardware.

Problem:
Installation proceeds normally from boot disk and CDROM. I respond to the
configuration questions taking all defaults. At the end of the
configuration questions it is ready to start the installation to the hard
drive.  The first screen says "Installation may now proceed unattended".
Then, the next screen displays the following message and system is hung:

In a box     Please wait while additional files are extracted
             from the media source.
             Extracting files.

Below box    Reading from Install Source: _

I've tried what I know but can not get past this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Fred Goldberg

1. SCO OpenServer 5.0.2 installation problem (HELP)

Hi gurus

I'm trying to install SCO OpenServer 5.0.2 on a new chassis and am hitting some
problems (surprise...) any assist appreciated.

The mobo: SuperMicro P3TDLE
Video: - Brand-X PCI - SIS chipset
RAID SCSI(1): Adaptec 2100S RAID 0+1 (nice...)
SCSI(2): Avansys ABP3925 - CDROM SCSI ID 0, HP1537A SCSI ID 3
boot SCO N1
load Adaptec FDD when asked

link
(packages): dpti5 asc

load Avansys FDD when asked
hangs on install - last message on screen: F dptrinit

Any assist appreciated - have tried moving SCSI IDs around of tape and CD to no
effect so am back where we started.

The Adaptec readme says:
SCO Unix 3.2v4.2 needs defbootstr link=dtti4
SCO OpenServer 5.x needs defbootstr ahslink=dpti5
SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 needs defbootstr link=dpti5

Am trying a build now (realtime) - any assist appreciated.

Latest try removed avansys defbootstr ahslink=dpti5 still fails

thanks (in advance)
