Two ways:
1.) Install a lpd on your windows. (guess there is on in freeware or use
something like lan workplace)
Then you could use the printer as remote printer from aix.

or

2.) Install samba on aix. Then you could use shared windows printers.

Stefano,
We do screen prints from "X" windows by inserting the following
line into the startup of our window manager.
   "xwd|xpr -device ps -gray 2|lp -diss1"
xwd             dump the contenets of an Xwindow
xpr             format a window dump file for printing
"-device ps"   Specifies a postscript format
"-grey 2"      Specifies grey scale conversion of color rather
                than black and white.
lp              Sends request to line printer
"-diss1"       Destinatiuon is line printer  iss1

The "xwd" and "xpr" command are in the /usr/bin/X11 directory on our
AIX 4.1.5 machine. Most of our workstations are HP's so we insert the
the line above into the file /home/jazz/.vue/vuewmrc which is the
startup file for the VUE window manager.
Hope this helps!

Stefano,
I forgot to mention one thing about the Xwindow printing. The
modifications to the vuewmrc fiile allow us to use the "print screen"
button to do screen prints.

AIX 3.2 use Windows printers ?

Elinia,

Why not use Samba to print from Windows to AIX 3.2 ?
It's free and can be found precompiled at

        ftp://aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu/pub/samba/RISC/3.2/exec/

The homepage with documentation is at :

        http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/

Matt

AIX 3.2 use Windows printers ?

Yes.  How easy depends on which windows.  NT4 hasa built-in LPD, but I
haven't used it yet.  For win95/3.x you have to add an lpd.  We use one
called NIPRINT from Network Instruments.  It works very well, except they
make you buy a 25 user license if the printer is not directly attached to
a port on the machine running niprint.  Not a problem unless your printers
are "network attached".

1. IBM 2380 Printer with AIX 3.2 serial port

I am rebuilding a system configuration after HD crash without
a mksysb tape. This printer seems to be my final problem.

When attached to serial port it prints a little bit of garbage
and then spews paper. Setting are:

rs232
9600
8 bits
parity none
stop 1
Xon/Xoff

Printer is ok on parallel port. My serial cable is 'twisted',
known good cable.

There are some little switches on the printer serial port
adapter, switch a3 is on, all others off. Is this correct?
I didn't knowingly change this, but maybe it was accidentally
changed. Anyone know the definition of these switches?

I tried it with port set to 7 bits and it prints a whole lot of
garbage.

I vaguely remember having a similar problem in the dim and
distant past. I can't help but think this is a configuration
problem.
