Position Notice
Manager of Systems Services
Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Primary Function of Position: Implement and manage scientific and
administrative computing support at the Beckman Institute.
Duties and Responsibilities: Formulate Institute computing strategies
and standards in cooperation with faculty and staff; supervise
management of building computing services, such as file servers,
compute servers, printers, modem pools, and administrative computing
systems, including scheduling maintenance and coordinating software and
hardware maintenance contracts; maintain functionality of and plan for
upgrades and expansion of building networks; advise Institute
researchers about computing strategies and software and hardware
maintenance procedures; cooperate with other campus units in
coordinating computing activities; keep a* of technological issues
related to scientific computing.
Qualifications: BS in Computer Science or other scientific or
quantitative field. Master's degree preferred. Experience with
TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and Novell networks. Experience with Ethernet,
FDDI, ATM and LocalTalk. Familiarity with Unix, DOS, and MacOS. At
least 3 years experience in multi-vendor systems support, including
supervisory duties. Experience in an academic environment is
desirable.
Salary: Minimum of $40,000
Other: This is a regular, full-time 12-month academic professional
