Incremental Copy?

Incremental Copy?

Post by Saurabh Moha » Wed, 08 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,
        I need to copy a directory sub-tree to a remote machine(So that
we have replicated copy). I am thinking of setting up a cron job to do it
for me. But I want to make the copy in an Incremental fashion so that I
do Not waste Network bandwith & time. Could u please tell me what are my
options?

        Also,
Is it possible to configure the same Network interface to
use more than 1 ip?

Thankx a lot for ur time & help!!

Yes,
http://www.veryComputer.com/

That's a Linux version but it works with minor adjustments for most
*NIX.

  http://rsync.samba.org/

is becoming a de facto standard for FTP mirroring.

Yes, in general, use ifconfig, syntax varies across Unix variants.

1. URGENT: incremental security copies

Hi...I am studing a little about "incremental secutiry copies" using
commands like dump,etc...

I see that if I want eg to make a security copy  politic for a month
I could make eg:

- 0 level security copy the 1st Monday of the month.
- 1 level ssecurity copy another Mondays.
- 2 level security copy the rest of the days...

Then, if I would need to backup the info eg for the Thursday of 2nd
week...I may have to backup the 0-level copy, and then backup the
1-level copy of that week , and finally backup the 3-level copy of
Wednesday before the Thursday in cuestion...
So I would need 3 tapes...for the backup...

But...what about if I would like to backup all info for a whole
year...How many tapes do I need?

I would need to recover eg. the info from Wednesday of 3rd week of
July...but...How I make this...Would I need 3*12=36 tapes?

Thanks in advance...
