Solstice backup 5.1 - speed issues

Post by japp.. » Tue, 30 May 2000 04:00:00

Running solstice backup 5.1 on E3500.

This runs at around 10pm and backups up around 8
file systems with around 12 gb to backup.

Over the last 3 months the speed of the backup
has become dire. The read/write rate starts up at
3mb/sec - which should complete the backup with 3
hours. However, come 8am (backup starts at 10pm)
the backup ios still running on the final (and
largest) file system (6gb) the read/write rate is
at a terrible 16kb/sec !!

There is nothing going on over night to affect
this machine, and ive test run the backup during
its busiest time and ive gotten back read /write
rates of 6mb/sec!!  It is as if the longer the
program runs for, it just slowly dies. Does
anyone know if there is somesort of memory
leakage with networker 5.1??

Any help would be appreciated.

Memory shortage in the server or client ? Large filesystems
might be the same as large indexes(which networker will try
to keep updated).

1. Solstice Backup 5.1 / DMO 2.1/Oracle 8.1.5: Tape backup failed : Need of 5.5 Upgrade ?

Hi,

we have the following installation:

Backup Server with

Solaris 2.5.1
Solstice Backup  Server 5.1

Backup client with

Solaris 2.6
Solstice backup Client 5.1

DMO (Database modules for Oracle) 2.1 with the last Patches, which
should give the possibility of scheduled backups

Oracle 8.1.5

Our Problem is:

we cant make a tape-backup with allocate ...'sbt_tape'  startet over
rman. backups to disk are running fine.

Starting a backup over nwadmin we get an error, because there is no
given a user.

Has anybody made a tape-backup from rman or nwadmin, without upgrading
to Solstice Backup 5.5?

TIA,

Nele
