Dial in and Dial out???

Dial in and Dial out???

Post by Christian Rohrmei » Fri, 09 Aug 1991 04:27:10

Thanks to many responses I got on my modem question. I wish to
let any else know what I had to do to avoid my problem:

If you are running OPENWINDOWS on a sun, you must use an Xterm
window to comunicate to your modem!!! A comand tool or shell-tool
will not do it! As it turns out, I spent weeks fiddeling with the
/etc/remote, /etc/gettytab, and /etc/ttytab entries only to find
that that wasn't the problem!

Now, unto my question:

My modem dials out fine, and I can have it answer the phone but not
BOTH at the same time. I am forced to turn my ttya entry in ttytab off,
do a kill -1 1, then I can dial out. To make it answer the phone again,
I turn ttya back on, and do a kill -1 1 again.

Is there a smooth way to do this, or avoid this problem all together?

1. Problems with dialing out when dial-ins are enabled

I'm having trouble getting dial-outs to work when dial-ins are
enabled.  I can dial out on /dev/cua1 when getty isn't running
on /dev/ttyS1, but when getty is running I get a message that
the port I'm trying to dial-out on (/dev/cua1) is in use.  I
read the FAQs and everything seems to be set up right.  What
am I doing wrong?

[I'm running SLS 1.02 (0.99pl9).]
