What does UNIX stand for ??

UNIX is derived from eunuchs which is what it was originally referred to as it was
a cutdown version of another operating system (ie. no balls).

I thought everyone knew that back in the 60's General Electric (along with
others who I can't remember) developed a system called MULTICS (Don't ask
me what that stood for!)  Anyway, the system was a real dog!  Slide rules
and abacuses were faster.  The name UNIX was a pun for the MULTICS system.

1. EXCHANGING OPTICAL DISKS : DOS to UNIX / UNIX to DOS

I will be generating a lot of TIF files on a PC based system.
Those files have to get stored on an optical disk that should
be readable by an SGI workstation (UNIX).

Therefore, I need a utility/driver to allow me one of the
following:

a) allow DOS to write on a UNIX partition.

b) allow UNIX to read a DOS partition

Thanks!
