Help with Kermit/Alpha Beeper

Post by Dave DeChell » Wed, 01 Mar 1995 02:18:49

Hello,

We currently have a few alphanumeric beepers at our system, and I'm
working on a script that auto dials a alpha beeper, then PIN, then
ascii text message.  I can get it to transmit numeric data using the
normal beeper number,

I talked to a representative at Metromedia Paging and they gave me a
modem number, but it connects and then hangs up.  Supposedly, their
software, which can be purchased, uses that to accomplish what I want
to do without their software.  I.e, their software asks me for the PIN,
and the ascii message, and their interface, calls the modem, and does
the work.  Does anyone have any ideas/scripts, etc that could do what I
need it to do?

but he's no longer at that account.  Thanks for any insight.

You need a specific protocol to send alphanumeric pages.  Try:

 ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/.b/usenet/comp.sources.unix/volume26/tpage2

Or for something a bit more ambitious (faxing too...), look at the
Hylafax program on sgi.com:/sgi/fax/.

You should check out tpage, a very good public domain alphanumeric
pager system with rudimentary scheduling. We have just finished
installing it and it works like a charm!

: ftp.geo.mtu.edu /pub/ixo
Sorry to followup my own post but I have received email saying that this
site was unreachable or their nameserver couldn't find it. So I have
uploaded it to ftp.neosoft.com /pub/users/b/billw/tpage.tar.gz

Hello...I got that file both there and at the other site.  The Makefile
that the docs say to use isn't in those different packages..

I tried emailing the author and tried joining the Maillist and it's
obviously been deleted.  Any support can be appriciated

1. TAP protocol alpha beeper software

Does anyone have any info on the TAP protocol for alpha-numeric
beepers?  Does software, or at least the spec, exist anywhere on
the net?  Motorola's web site just points me to Compuserve for
TAP information.

Thank's,
MarkS
