Position: Lead Unix Systems Administrator
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Salary Range: $4506-$5445/mnth
Duties:
Under the general direction of the Network Systems Group (NSG)
Supervisor, the incumbent will supervise the development, administration and
management of the campus computing network for research and instruction - the
Instructional Support Information System (ISIS). As a senior member of NSG,
the incumbent shares systems administration and analysis responsibilities with
other senior staff, delegating systems administration and systems programming
functions as appropriate. Participates in the ISIS Design Group, which will
design and develop an integrated, heterogeneous, distributed computing system
including the integration and implementation of whole systems network and
systems adminstration and management tools. Investigates and evaluates new
technologies needed to maintain an efficient and effective system for
teaching, learning and research; advises and consults with other technical
staff to ensure a high level of service to the academic community. Performs
other related tasks.
Requirements:
Equivalent to five years of progressively responsible experience in UNIX
systems administration which includes systems study, design, programming,
modification, installation or evaluation of operating systems software and a
Bachelor's degree preferable with a major in Computer Science or
related field.
Special Qualifications:
Must have an excellent understanding of Sun Microsystems operating systems and
Open Network Computing (ONC) services of the C programming language, UNIX
shell scripts, system administration, performance tuning, security and related
UNIX systems development tools. An understanding of and experience with
Microsoft DOS, Windows, MH mail, TCP/IP and FDDI networks desirable.
