              UNIX Network Support Officer - Ref R:1135

Application are invited for the above EC funded post tenable from as soon as
possible until the end of 1998 to support research tems working in Natural
Language Processing and Speech Recognition.  The successful candidate should
have experience in administering UNIX systems, particularly SOLARIS-2 and
Linux.

Salary in the range 17,110 - 22,143 pa.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS SUPPORT OFFICER

CRC FOR SUSTAINABLE SUGAR PRODUCTION

James Cook University

The appointee will administer and maintain the Centre's distributed
information system, incorporating RDBMS, GIS and video conferencing
facilities.  

Applicants should have a tertiary qualification in Computer
Science or Information Technology, with exposure to distributed
information systems including dial-up point to point networks and
programming of user interfaces to distributed IS and CGI.

Experience in IT needs assessment, administration of ARC/INFO GIS, WAN,
LAN and Video Conferencing, GIS data collation and conversion, AML, C,
C++, Fortran, Java, Pro-C. Pro-For & Shell programming would be an
advantage, as would experience in simple hardware maintenance of computer
systems, Unix systems, WWW services and distributed RDBMS.

Tenure: Appointment will be for a period of three years.

Salary: Higher Education Worker Level 5 - $30018 - $34220 Aus..

A locality allowance currently at the rate of $17.60 a fortnight is also
payable.
