Subnet Mask

Subnet Mask

Hi,

Is it possible and/or does it make sense to use different subnet masks for
one class B address? Does this work if you use static routing? When do you
get problems?

Example:

Is it possible to use a 7 Bit (LAN 1) and 5 Bit (LAN 2) subnet mask for the
class B address 138.8.0.0 as it is shown in the following example?

NA: network address
SM: subnet mask

    NA: 138.8.73.0            *********
       UNIX-LAN 1 ---------.1-* CISCO * -.2---|
   SM: 255.255.254.0          *********       |
                                              |
                                              |
                                              |
                                        NA: 138.8.97.0
                                            X.25-WAN
                                      SM: 255.255.248.0
                                              |
                                              |
    NA: 138.8.129.0           *********       |
       UNIX-LAN 2 ---------.1-* CISCO * -.1---|
   SM: 255.255.248.0          *********       |

If you have any ideas please contact me by e-mail.

Thanks

        Pat.
