remote system management

Post by Jan Speksnijde » Fri, 19 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Does anyone knows a way to start commands on a remote Unix system in a
secure way. We are not allowed to use rsh. I try to realize distributed
systemmanagement without having to logon to multiple systems. I'm using
Digital Unix.

Thanks in advance
Jan

Would ssh instead of rsh be what you are looking for?

You might want to take a look at Kerberos.  It supplied secure versions
of r{sh,login} and much more.

Here is some documentation:

I'd suggest looking into ssh

Has all the features of rsh BUT uses encrypted channel.

1. Remote UNIX system management

We are exploring options for management of remote UNIX systems. These would probably
include: SunOS, Solaris, AIX, OSF/1 and possibly HP/UX. Anyone out there have
experience doing this? Are there remote sys management/monitoring packages that
aid in doing this sort of thing? Do we have to resort to proprietary solutions from
each vendor? Any suggestions/pointers/information about this would be very much
appreciated. Thanks in advance...
